The masjid is a sacred space for prayer, reflection and community. It is essential to maintain a respectful and welcoming environment for all worshippers and visitors in line with Islamic teachings, UK laws and the guidelines set by the Charity Commission. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour within the masjid premises.

1. Respect for the masjid and its purpose

The masjid is first and foremost a place of worship, learning, and community engagement, and must be treated with reverence at all times. Worshippers and visitors are asked to dress modestly in accordance with Islamic guidelines, and to maintain quiet and a sense of calm in the prayer halls and surrounding spaces so that others may worship without disturbance.

2. Observing Islamic practices

Worshippers are expected to observe the prayers with sincerity and to maintain ritual purity through ablution (Wudu) where required. The Quran is the most sacred book in Islam, and it should be handled with utmost care. Visitors are not permitted to touch the Quran without Wudu, and it should never be placed on the floor or handled carelessly.

3. Respect for others and community conduct

Everyone is welcome at the masjid regardless of background. Designated prayer areas are provided for men and women, and these arrangements should be respected. Noise should be kept to a minimum out of consideration for those in prayer, and parents and guardians are responsible for supervising children at all times while on the premises.

4. Health, safety, and hygiene

The masjid must adhere to UK health and safety regulations, including fire safety, accessibility for people with disabilities and emergency evacuation procedures. Worshippers and visitors are asked to help maintain a clean environment and to observe good personal hygiene out of respect for the space and for fellow attendees.

5. Respect for masjid property

Smoking or vaping is strictly prohibited on masjid premises, in accordance with UK law and Islamic principles of preserving health. Masjid equipment, materials and facilities must be used responsibly and with care, and food or drink should only be consumed in the areas designated for that purpose.

6. Charity and donations

Worshippers and visitors are encouraged to support the masjid's charitable activities through voluntary donations. All donations will be handled transparently, in compliance with the regulations set out by the Charity Commission. Any fundraising activity carried out on the premises must first receive the approval of the masjid management.

7. Behavioural expectations

Discrimination, harassment and violence of any kind will not be tolerated. The masjid is a space for spiritual development, not for political or sectarian activities. Political slogans, demonstrations, or discussions that disrupt the peaceful environment of the masjid will not be tolerated.

8. Compliance with UK laws and Charity Commission guidelines

All attendees are expected to comply with applicable UK legislation, including anti-terrorism and equality legislation, as well as the charity regulations governing the masjid's governance, safeguarding, and financial accountability.

9. Reporting misconduct and safeguarding

The protection and wellbeing of vulnerable groups — including children, the elderly, and disabled persons — is a priority. Concerns about conduct or safeguarding may be raised with the masjid management, and complaints will be handled through a fair and transparent procedure. Where appropriate, violations may result in temporary suspension or permanent banning from the masjid premises, in accordance with UK law and the masjid's internal regulations.

10. General guidelines

Volunteering and active participation in the life of the masjid are warmly encouraged, and all visitors are expected to comply with this Code. The masjid management reserves the right to amend this Code of Conduct to reflect changes in legal or regulatory requirements, or the evolving needs of the community.

By adhering to this Code of Conduct, all worshippers and visitors contribute to maintaining a peaceful, respectful, and harmonious environment in line with Islamic values, UK laws, and the guidelines of the Charity Commission.
