A warm welcome to visitors
Brick Lane Jamme Masjid welcomes visits from schools, colleges, universities and organised community groups who would like to learn more about Islam, the Masjid, and the role it plays within the local community. Our educational visits offer the chance to experience a working mosque, gain a better understanding of Muslim faith and practice, and ask thoughtful questions in a respectful and welcoming environment.
Our tours are designed to be informative, engaging and suitable for different age groups. Whether students are studying Islam as part of Religious Education, exploring places of worship, or learning about the diversity of British communities, a visit to the Masjid can provide a valuable first-hand experience that brings classroom learning to life.
As one of London's historic mosques — housed in a building that has been a place of worship since 1743 — Brick Lane Jamme Masjid offers a rare opportunity to connect learning about faith, history and community in a single, memorable visit.
Educational visits
Visits are a key part of our community engagement and educational work. We welcome primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and other educational settings who wish to provide their students with a meaningful visit to one of London's historic mosques.
During a tour, students are usually introduced to the history and purpose of the Masjid, the basic beliefs and practices of Islam, and the significance of prayer, worship and community life. Visitors may also be shown key areas of the building, depending on availability and prayer times, and will have the chance to observe the atmosphere of a living place of worship.
We aim to make every visit age-appropriate, accessible and relevant to the needs of the group. Our team understands that many students may be visiting a mosque for the first time, and we work to ensure that the experience is welcoming, respectful and educational.
During your visit
A typical visit may include a guided tour of the Masjid, an introduction to the Muslim faith, and an explanation of the daily life of the mosque. Students may learn about the purpose of prayer, the Qur'an, the importance of charity, and the role of the mosque in supporting both spiritual and community life.
Where appropriate, visits may also include time for questions and answers. This often allows students to explore common questions about Islam, worship, modesty, fasting, community values, and the similarities and differences between faith traditions in a thoughtful and open way.
Each visit can be tailored where possible to support the educational aims of the group — particularly for Religious Education, PSHE, citizenship and cultural understanding.
Why it matters
A visit to Brick Lane Jamme Masjid offers more than information alone. It gives students the opportunity to step into a real faith setting, observe respectful practices, and develop a deeper understanding of the beliefs and experiences of others. For many groups, this helps to build confidence, challenge misconceptions and encourage mutual respect.
We believe that educational visits play an important role in promoting understanding, inclusion and positive community relations. By welcoming schools into the Masjid, we hope to support learning that is rooted in curiosity, respect and meaningful dialogue.
"Stepping into a real faith setting helps students build confidence, challenge misconceptions, and encounter the beliefs and experiences of others with respect."
Before you come
To help ensure that the visit runs smoothly, schools are encouraged to contact us in advance with details of the group size, age range, preferred date and time, and any particular areas of focus. This allows us to plan the visit appropriately and provide the best possible experience for students and staff.
Who can visit
We welcome visits from a wide range of educational and community groups. This includes schools, colleges, universities, youth groups, researchers and other organised visitors who wish to learn more about Islam and the work of the Masjid.
While the main focus of this section is on school tours, we are also happy to hear from any organisation seeking a respectful and educational visit for their group.
Booking a tour
All tours and visits must be arranged in advance. This helps us to manage bookings carefully and ensure that visits take place at suitable times, without disrupting prayer services or other mosque activities.
A member of our team will then respond to discuss availability and the next steps.
